On Wednesday, Governor Bill Lee (R-TN) discussed upcoming changes in state leadership while visiting the Covenant Health Park in East Tennessee as part of his tour celebrating the United States of America’s 250th anniversary.

Earlier that day, U.S. Senator Marsha Blackburn (R-TN) officially announced her bid for governor of Tennessee.

“Tennessee is the greatest place in the world to rear a family and make a life and a living, and together, we can make our great state even better,” Blackburn stated in her first official campaign ad. “We’ll make Tennessee America’s No. 1 job-creating, energy-producing powerhouse.”

“I’ve known Senator Blackburn for a long time. She’s a great leader for our country and I’m proud that she’s stepped into the race,” Lee told WVLT 8 when asked if he would endorse Blackburn. “I’m proud that we’ve got good candidates that are willing. We need people that are willing to step up and serve and so I’m excited for her.”

Lee was also asked about whether he might run for U.S. Senate now that his time as governor is coming to an end.

“I’m not running for Senate if that’s what you’re asking,” said Lee.

According to a poll released Thursday by the Beacon Center of Tennessee, Blackburn holds a “commanding” 52-point poll lead over U.S. Rep. John Rose (R-TN-District 6) in the race for governor.

Blackburn is leading against Rose by 66%-14%. About 19% were undecided between the two.

The Beacon Center noted that both Republican candidates would start with major leads over a “generic Democratic candidate” in the general election.

A simple X poll conducted by The Tennessee Conservative showed similar poll results to that of the Beacon Center.

When asked who they would vote for if the election for Tennessee Governor were held today, respondents chose Blackburn by a wide margin.

76.6% of respondents said they would vote for Blackburn if the election were held today.

8.7% of respondents selected Rose and 14.7% said they were undecided.
