A Guatemalan man has finally returned to Nashville to face multiple charges after being arrested in Guatemala months ago for allegedly being connected to a child rape investigation.
46-year-old Domingo R. Sunun was taken into custody by the Davidson County Sheriff’s Department on July 2 after being arrested in Guatemala in December 2025. The government of Guatemala gave approval for his extradition to the U.S. in March.

Sunun will face two counts of aggravated child rape, five counts of child rape, and five counts of aggravated battery of a child under the age of 13.

According to records, Metro Nashville police responded to a home on Gwynnwood Drive in September 2021 after receiving reports that Sanun had sexually assaulted three relative children in the home over the course of three years.
Relatives told police that Sanun fled the home with his belongings after a police report was filed. A warrant was filed, charging him with aggravated rape and rape of a child.
After police were able to determine that Sanun had fled the country to avoid being arrested, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation were able to obtain a new warrant charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution. This allowed them to work with international officers in an attempt to return Sanun for prosecution.

The case was handled by MNPD and the FBI, along with the assistance of the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs.
“Let this be a message to those who seek to victimize our youth: no matter where you run or where you hide, law enforcement will hunt you down and hold you accountable for your crimes,” stated Special Agent in Charge Terence G. Reilly of the FBI Nashville Field Office. “There is no place in our community for those who prey on children, and we will do everything we can to not only seek justice for the victims, but to prevent additional child exploitation crimes. I commend FBI Nashville’s Violent Crimes Squad and our partners for their steadfast commitment to protect the most vulnerable members of our community.”
Inmate records indicate that Sanun currently has an immigrant hold, meaning he will remain in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement if he was to be released of the other charges. This also means that Sanun was in the country illegally at the time of the alleged crimes.
