What is the Property tax issue? I know that in most states it is a deceptively written law. In California for example, the statutory term “person” does not include individuals. See https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displaySection.xhtml?lawCode=RTC&sectionNum=19.
Most people erroneously believe that the term “includes” comprises all sorts of other things not listed. This is not true. The term “includes” may be used in a nonrestrictive way, implying that there may be other things not specifically mentioned but only if they are part of the same category. The term “person” as used in the tax code liable for a property tax are only corporations. It is the condition placed by the people of the State upon the privilege of acting in a fictional capacity. No one has a natural right to operate in this capacity, but every State constitution I have read says that people have the right to own and protect their property. The State has no right to tax an individual’s private property without him waiving this right to gain some privilege. Every individual should ask their county tax collector where the law is that makes their personal property liable to a tax. There is plenty of case law on this subject.
