Two brothers who illegally entered the United States multiple times were apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a targeted operation in Williamson County last month, with authorities alleging connections to weapons and drugs.
According to ICE, the brothers first tried to illegally enter the country in 2022 but were intercepted by Border Patrol and returned to Mexico multiple times. 26-year-old Raul Solis-Altamirano attempted entry on May 16, 2022, and May 19, 2022, was returned both times, then reentered at an unknown location without inspection and has been in the U.S. since.
His brother, Jair Solis-Altamirano, reportedly entered the U.S. four times and was returned to Mexico after each attempt, but like his brother snuck back in at an unknown site without inspection.
Now, after roughly four years, the siblings were taken into custody during a July ICE operation in late July near Goose Creek after they were spotted in the area.
Agents arrested Raul without incident, but Jair locked himself in his vehicle and drove away, with law enforcement electing not to pursue over “safety concerns.” However, authorities said they found Jair the following day and detained him also without incident.
ICE shared a photo with local news showing a long gun with a drum magazine inside a car, which the agency said was one of several found on a phone belonging to one of the brothers and adding it was under investigation. Both siblings will remain in ICE custody pending the outcome of their cases.
“ICE will continue to prioritize public safety and uphold its responsibilities under federal law. Being in detention is a choice. We encourage all illegal aliens to take control of their departure with the CBP Home App,” an ICE spokesperson wrote. “The United States is offering illegal aliens $2,600 and a free flight to self-deport now. We encourage every person here illegally to take advantage of this offer and reserve the chance to come back to the U.S. the right legal way to live the American dream. If not, you will be arrested and deported without a chance to return.”
Some Williamson County residents are supportive of ICE’s work in the area, with one saying, “I think they should be deported. I think ICE is doing a great job. I’m sorry they have to go through that, but again, if you’re here illegally, we have immigration laws for a reason.”
ICE continues to have a strong presence in Tennessee, working independently and in tandem with other agencies to execute multi-faceted operations, especially as all state sheriff’s departments are now required to participate in the federal 287(g) program to aid in immigration enforcement efforts.
