The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
Two Memphis political candidates who lost their respective races are calling for the Shelby County District Attorney to investigate a potential compromise of the city-wide elections held earlier this month.
On October 13, City Council candidate Jerred Price and mayoral candidate Van Turner asked D.A. Steve Mulroy and U.S. Attorney Kevin Ritz to initiate an investigation into the Shelby County Election Commission. The request comes after reports of alleged security breaches.
One of those breeches allegedly occurred the day before the election, on October 4.
An election worker reported a burglary of her car, which was parked in the Glenview Area. Along with personal items, ballot box keys and election codes were stolen from the vehicle. Those items were later recovered when the thief was apprehended.
“We want to ensure that there wasn’t any compromise,” Price said. “Why would an election inspector leave all of this stuff in her car two days before election night?”
Concerns were minimized by Election Commissioner Linda Phillips who repeatedly stated that the election was not compromised. The investigation request, however, says that her statement is not based on “anything conclusively proving the election was not compromised.”
Turner sent a statement to ABC24, saying, “I requested a federal investigation based on the police report indicating that election keys and codes were stolen. As this is an ongoing criminal investigation, I think it’s appropriate for those agencies to provide further comment. It’s my hope that for future elections, what happened here will not happen again and that the integrity of the electoral process will remain intact.”
Price says it is imperative to show voters that they can trust the voting process.
“Our voters are already at the sentiment that they’re not going to show up because it’s not going to matter; well if we don’t address security breaches like this,” Price stated, “Then we’re going to continue to see a decline in turnout.”
One Response
Do you, Price and Turner, really expect the feds to do one dm thing that would secure the voting process?
The FBI is totally involved in manipulating elections.
Well, unless you are democrats, then you have nothing to worry about.
