After a year of deployment in the city, the Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) has made 12,747 arrests, seized 2,160 firearms from criminals, and located 189 children, statistics which the Trump administration is promoting as part of the success in lowering overall crime in Memphis by as much as 36%.

“President Trump’s Memphis Safe Task Force has driven down violent crime in a city that was failed by extreme Democrats’ soft-on-crime policies. The Task Force has made more than 12,000 arrests, including of murderers, sex offenders, drug traffickers, and other violent criminals, and has seized more than 2,100 illegal firearms. President Trump restored law and order and made Memphis safe again,” said White House spokesperson Lauren Bis.

President Trump stated the city is on pace for a 25-year low in overall crime, with violent crime down more than 30% and major property crime down more than 40% across Shelby County. “In 2025, Memphis recorded fewer than 200 murders for the first time since 2019,” said President Trump.

Data from the City of Memphis Safer Communities Dashboard corroborates those claims, reporting a decrease in violent crime of 36% compared to last year.

The president also noted:

  • Murders are down 36%
  • Sexual assaults are down 28%
  • Motor vehicle thefts are down 57%
  • Robberies have dropped by 42%
  • Shoplifting has fallen 44%
  • Aggravated assaults have decreased by 26%.

Of the 12,747 arrests made by the MSTF in the last year, 1,408 have been arrests of known gang members, and another 1,363 were narcotics related. The remaining arrests have included homicides, firearms violations, and sex offenses.

“ONE YEAR since the Memphis Safe Task Force began, and the results are a resounding success. After decades of Democrat-led, soft-on-crime failures, President Trump set out to enforce law-and-order policies in Memphis. In just one year, the city is completely revitalized,” the White House posted on social media.

U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche highlighted the MSTF results during a briefing on Tuesday, and FBI Director Kash Patel championed the task force’s successes, and those of other similar operations around the country, before a Senate committee hearing the same day.

“Memphis had the highest per-capita homicide rate in America. We said we were going do to something about it. We did…This isn’t about temporary sweeps or photo ops. We collect the intelligence, build the cases, execute the warrants, seize the guns, dismantle the gangs, and attack violet crime at its root,” Patel said.

There is currently no definitive timetable for the task force to sunset, though contracts for the National Guard, who has operated as part of the MSTF since its inception, expire on September 30, so it is currently unclear whether the troops, or any other agencies involved, will remain in the city or begin cycling out.
