The Tennessee Conservative [By Kelly M. Jackson] –

According to the website page for the Metro Nashville Employee Benefit Board, included on the agenda of items to be considered is gender reassignment for employees as a part of the general health benefit plans.

Based on reports, cost estimates for transition from male to female can cost as much as $140,450 and a transition from female to male can run $124,400, which includes all related procedures, surgeries, hair removal, hormone therapies.

What isn’t specifically indicated is whether or not this is just an estimate for the initial transition, and not the additional cost patients will incur for the lifelong treatments they will need to maintain the changes, or any additional surgeries needed due to complications.

The Tennessee Conservative reached out to Metro Nashville HR to ask specifically what the city would be covering for initial transitions as well as on-going care, should gender reassignment be approved to be included in the city’s healthcare plans and has not received any response as of the writing of this article.

There is another aspect to this story that is also of interest – the mounting pressure being put on corporations to include these types of treatments for their employees, and very specifically, hormone treatments for minors who identify as transgender.

The Corporate Equality Index, which has ranked businesses for their treatment of LGBTQ employees since 2002, wields more influence now than ever before in its history. This is due to the trend of social justice causes and their impact on current culture and how that influences Americans on where they should spend their dollars. In past years, a high score on the index was not desired by many companies fearful of a conservative backlash.

However, in more recent years the mainstream media has worked tirelessly to advance the LGBTQIA+ agenda, which now holds much of corporate America in its thrall.

A less than perfect 100 on the index can get a company culturally canceled, affect its ability to obtain credit, and quite possibly leave a once robust business in virtual ruins. Considering that much of the information the index quantifies is from surveys of those employees that identify as a member of the community, it seems like a great deal of power in the hands of a small number of people.

This is all taking place in a time where state after state is endeavoring to place restrictions on hormone blockers for minors – it pits companies and other entities against the states in which they reside and operate.

It is unclear whether Metro Nashville has been influenced to add this type of medical care to their plans for city employees because of a desire to demonstrate their level of “wokeness.” Some feel it is a message to the state General Assembly and Governor Lee that they will defy the new state laws against providing this type of care to minors should the law be imposed.

We will be following this story as it develops and inform our readers of any updates.
