The Tennessee Conservative [By Paula Gomes] –

A Wilson County parent reported the closing of a GLSEN club at a local high school last week and lay the blame on parental rights group Moms For Liberty.

The post reads:

A recent visit from Moms for Liberty to [Green Hill High School] targeting the GLSEN club that met during the day resulted in all clubs that met during the day being cancelled per the Federal Equal Access Act. I just wanted all parents to be aware why their child’s club may have been cancelled and also to be sure that all clubs are guaranteed equal access by federal law in case any schools went about treating their GLSEN or GSA based groups differently.

GLSEN (pronounced glisten) stands for Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network an organization that supports GSA clubs in schools (Gender and Sexuality Alliances or Gay-Straight Alliances.) The student-led extracurricular clubs in K-12 public schools “provide LGBTQ students with a support network and help all students advocate for safer and more inclusive schools for all.” They sponsor and provide free resources for students to celebrate events such as Solidarity Week, No-Name Calling Week, and Day of Silence.

This year’s Day of Silence on April 22nd went largely unrecognized in Wilson County schools according to our sources but GLSEN’s presence was noted in at least one high school. “These little signs are hanging on every single classroom door… At first I thought it was just a couple teachers but it is the entire school.”

At the same school, a Pride flag has been prominently displayed all year in one of the classrooms.

Amanda Price of Moms For Liberty – Wilson County went on the record to address the rumors on Thursday.

“I realize there are some who have dug their heels in on misinformation about Moms for Liberty – Wilson County because it confirms their bias. Regardless, neither the organization nor any affiliated member acting separately has asked or pushed for the GLSEN club to be cancelled. Assuming [Green Hill High School] wasn’t in violation of WCS policy 6.702, there should be no issues with any clubs. Mr. Dawson has been contacted. We are waiting to find out if this decision was truly made, why it was made, and how we came to be scapegoated.”

Price told The Tennessee Conservative that she met with Principal Dawson to discuss the potential violation of a policy in regard to the lack of balanced representation of conservative voices in the school’s library.

“[Dawson] acknowledged that the bulk package of materials he ordered from Follett did appear to exclude conservative viewpoints and he committed to balancing that out,” she said.

At one point during their meeting, Dawson brought up the GLSEN club.

“There was no objection mentioned to the existence of the group, only agreement that the club had a right to meet alongside all the others,” said Price. “I did ask if parents knew about the group to be sure they had been given the opportunity to offer consent.”

The Tennessee Conservative reached out to Principal Dawson to confirm if all extracurricular clubs at the school have been canceled but had not received a response at the time of publication.

It sounds like a liberal is using this as a way to attack MFL.

I am currently residing in New York and the town next to me is very liberal. There’s an Orthodox Jew ( read: conservative) who is running for a seat on the school board because he and many others are sick of the CRT/LBGT nonsense.
He’s being slandered on local news outlets ( read: liberal local new sites) as a “radical right-wing” candidate.
He is not. I look forward to the day I can move back to Tennessee with the normal people 🙂

Oh and he’s being endorsed by Moms for Liberty. They’re really freaking out over that.
