The Memphis Safe Task Force continues to make impressive headway in their joint operations, this week confiscating pounds of drugs, apprehending murder suspects, and catching a kidnapper who led officers on a high-speed chase.

Drugs:

The Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) reported that troopers seized 20 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Wednesday of this week. THP thanked the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), one of the 13 law enforcement agencies involved in the task force, for the tip which led to the seizure.

Two individuals were arrested, both suspected by the DEA to be illegal aliens from Mexico.

Murders:

According to the U.S. Marshals Service, task force investigators responded to a shooting call around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, discovering a woman had been shot and killed outside the home. While working the scene, two officers were injured, one punched by a female suspect who had unlawfully entered the crime scene and was being escorted away. The other was bitten by a dog but sustained non-critical injuries.

Upon returning to the scene later in the morning after identifying a male relative as a potential suspect in the murder, officers encountered a man who fled from the property but was quickly detained. Inside the house, task force officers discovered another partially dismembered body.

The suspect who punched the officer has been identified as Lakita Fleming and has been arrested.

In another success, the task force announced the arrest of 23-year-old Kevin L. Brown in Clarksville, TN. Brown was wanted since March 26, 2025, in connection with the fatal shooting of a Memphis rapper and the injury of another individual.

The task force’s investigation led authorities to a motel in Clarksville, where Brown was successfully apprehended without incident on Thursday, Oct. 23 by U.S. Marshals and taken to a local detention facility. He faces charges of First-Degree Murder and two counts of Employing a Firearm During the Commission of a Dangerous Felony.

Marshal Tyreece Miller said of the arrest, “The Memphis Safe Task Force operates with precision, speed, and an unlimited reach, there is no safe haven for violent offenders, no matter where they attempt to hide.”

High-Speed Kidnapper:

Early Thursday morning, Marshals arrested a man for allegedly kidnapping two women and leading the task force on a high-speed chase through the city.

According to the agency, task force officers attempted to pull over a car “following multiple vehicle infractions” but the driver, later identified as Demarious Moore, 33, led law enforcement on a 20-minute high-speed chase, going as fast as 115 mph.

Reportedly, Moore had two women in the car who were “prevented from exiting”, with one woman jumping out of the vehicle during the chase. The Marshals said both women “are now safe”.

Moore was charged with two counts of kidnapping and felony evading.

The task force has over 1,200 arrests to date, with that number increasing every day. Over 60 missing children have been recovered, and joint operations continue to see some of the “worst of the worst” apprehended and taken off Memphis streets.
