Tennessee Conservative News Staff –

Johnson County will be the first location in Tennessee to receive a permanent display of the United States’ First Charters of Freedom, just in time to celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

The new display will be placed in Mountain City and will include the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and Civil Rights Amendments by Foundation Forward, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a means for people to view these foundational documents without having to travel to Washington, D.C.

Mountain City resident Dan Parsons, VFW Post 6908 and Post 6908 Auxiliary, and local businesses, in conjunction with Johnson County and the Town of Mountain City, worked with the organization to bring the life-sized replicas to Tennessee.

The new Charters of Freedom display will be dedicated on July 2. Because the display is permanent, it will provide a hands-on learning opportunity for residents and visitors alike.

The site will also feature a Donor Recognition Pedestal and a Field of Honor with engraved pavers to allow local residents to honor family members, military members, etc.

Foundation Forward has erected 79 displays across the country, with this being the first in the state. The organization was started by a North Carolina couple, Vance and Mary Jo Patterson, after their first visit to the National Archives.
