Members of the Tennessee Neighbors for Liberty spoke at Wednesday’s meeting of the Hamilton County Commission. Their purpose was to address hospital protocol used in the treatment of patients with COVID-19.

According to the group’s press release in advance of the meeting, they planned to present the “discrepancy between what protocol hospitals are using to treat COVID patients and the actual complete NIH [National Institutes for Health] hospital protocol for treating COVID-19 patients from the NIH website.”

The group takes issue with the “global” protocols that give patients nearly identical treatment plans even those each patient may present different.

Glenda Pappu, the group’s director, was the first to address the commission. She began her speech by detailing the cases of a number of patients who had died from COVID-19 in area hospitals. She described a narrative in which patient’s loved ones were not allowed to see them.

Pappu stated that those patients “did not die because of COVID. They died due to the reckless protocols being used by our Tennessee hospitals.”

She continued, “The hospital protocol that was being used is not all of the NIH and CDC protocol.”

Pappu then gave the floor to Jamie Hall who went over the NIH recommended protocol for COVID-19 treatment.

Hall referenced a number of studies that point to the effectiveness of Ivermectin in treating SARS-COVID-2 infections.

According to Hall, area hospitals are not using the medications and treatment procedures that are most effective for individual patients. Many hospitals are refusing to treat with Ivermectin because it is “off label,” even though NIH policies list the drug as a viable treatment option.

“Hospitals will tell you, ‘we’re following the protocol.’ They will only follow the one protocol that they’re getting paid for,” Hall said.

Hall also noted that the NIH guidelines state that they “should not be considered mandates. The choice of what to do or not to do for an individual patient is ultimately decided by the patient and their provider.”

Hospitals are instead adopting their own protocols, according to the group, and are ignoring patient needs in the process.

“Hospitals are not acknowledging patient rights. They are not acknowledging power of attorneys, medical power of attorneys. They are denying any access to the patient or any say so from the patient or their medical power of attorney in their care,” Hall said.

The commission thanked the group for their report and then proceeded to hear other Hamilton residents regarding other issues.
