Police Looking For Suspects Who Injured Tourist In Downtown Memphis Shooting

An investigation is ongoing in a shooting that injured an English tourist this weekend in Downtown Memphis.

The incident occurred just before 8 p.m. on Saturday. Memphis Police were called to the Arrive Hotel, where they found the injured 28-year-old victim, a woman visiting Memphis from England.

According to reports, the woman was walking outside the hotel with another individual when they heard the sound of shots being fired. They sought cover as individuals in two passing vehicles – a black Dodge Challenger and a silver sedan- were exchanging fire.

A bullet grazed the left side of the victim’s head, as well as her right foot.

The Challenger involved in the incident had been reported as stolen about two hours before the shooting took place. Police located that car near MLK Avenue and Second Street, finding several bullet holes in it.

MPD has released photos of two men who were allegedly seen leaving the car, but there have been no arrests at this time.

Shortly before the shooting took place, police were called by a business owner on GE Patterson about the same men “acting suspicious.” One suspect was observed hiding a backpack and was asking for a ride over the phone.

Seven minutes after the shooting, both men fled the scene, with one of them reportedly limping, according to police.

According to police data, violent crimes such as this one do not frequently happen in the South Main Historic District.

According to the city’s public safety map, police have responded to 310 incidents in the South Main Historic District this year. Most reported crimes consist of motor vehicle thefts, vandalism, and larceny, with nine aggravated assaults and one criminal negligent homicide recorded as of October 21.
