The Tennessee Conservative [By Paula Gomes] –
Pushback on a flag ordinance has caused the City of Franklin to reconsider their position. The city’s ordinance currently limits the number of flags that a resident is permitted to fly on their property.
In August, Duane Charlton received a notice from city officials informing him that a new zoning ordinance that went into effect in July limited him to flying only three flags. Charlton had seven neatly lining the curb of his home on Birchwood Circle in Franklin, along with two additional flag poles each holding two more flags.
Charlton, who has lived in his home for almost thirty years, refused to remove any of his flags, the majority of which are American flags, and was then issued a citation with a court date in October.
Despite the threat of being fined, Charlton said he had no intention of removing any of his flags unless forced to do so. Franklin residents rallied to show their support, with some putting up multiple flags on their own properties and others bringing a petition to city leaders with more than three hundred signatures.
While lawyers have advised that the city is not out of bounds for limiting the number of flags, officials have relented on enforcing the ordinance with regard to Charlton. The city will revisit the issue next year.

Control freaks want to regulate everything and dictate every aspect of life for others and be exempt themselves as they wish. Vote the bums out! The flag flying hero stood his ground and the worms turned around. He should consider running for local office, now people know he will stand up for what is right and that he is a local patriot hero!
O….ok….So, THIS is why I’m seeing more and more of those “I MISS OLD FRANKLIN” bumper stickers! The governing ‘elite’ ruling class BOMA that thumbs their nose at the peasants in the ‘Hinterlands’ may as well admit they “stepped in it”! Further, they’ve pushed one man to far and a lot of people are behind him! May we all remember this when we go to vote in the next Franklin City Election.
Residents of the City of Franklin just chose a conservative for the Williamson County Commission in Dist. 10 over an ostentatiously open and notorious centrist/tepid conservative last Tuesday. Conservatives are rising up in Franklin!
