He was persuaded to run again in 2024 by his voters.
There’s no evidence, says Grok, that Tennessee Representative Mark Green explicitly told his voters he planned to resign shortly after his November 2024 re-election.
Today on social media, his voters express frustration and ire at his quick resignation, which tells us that they thought they were voting for someone to fulfill his term commitment.
However, under House rules, members are supposed to file a statement with the Ethics Committee disclosing negotiations for private employment, including the employer’s name, but no such details have been reported in available sources.
I hope he wasn’t too excited to remember the rules. . . . We deserve to understand just which employer, and what job, is more exciting to him than our country.
As chair of Homeland Security, and with the Republican majority in the House so slim, how much more excitement can he want? At this juncture in our nation’s history, where survival of our free republic is on the line – in large part because of illegal invaders sponsored and paid by the previous government – TN Rep Green needs more excitement; THAT, I cannot understand. We need good strong Conservatives now, more than at any time in our history, imho.
Tennessee voters have every right to be disappointed in Rep. Green. I am, personally, although he is not my Congressman. We need him, we need his work as Homeland Security Chair, we need the votes in Congress.
We can only pray that his new job is in a place where his Constitutional values can impact something of key importance.

Late on June 9, 2025, TN Rep Mark Green announced his intention to resign from Congress after the vote on the Big Beautiful Bill this summer.
Green states that “ I was offered an opportunity in the private sector that was too exciting to pass up.”
Green had intended to leave Congress at the end of the last term.
“Though I planned to retire at the end of the previous Congress, I stayed to ensure that President Trump’s border security measures and priorities make it through Congress,” said Green, who chairs the House Homeland Security Committee. “By overseeing the border security portion of the reconciliation package, I have done that. After that, I will retire, and there will be a special election to replace me.”
