The special session officially began yesterday, leaving many Tennesseans concerned about the legislation that may be produced as a result.

Groups such as Tennessee Stands have called for the special session to be adjourned before any legislation is put forward.

On Monday, the group tweeted: “a NO vote on any motion to adjourn is a vote against the constitution and against the People of Tennessee.”

Although a vote to adjourn did not go anywhere in the House of Representatives, the call did not go unheard. Rep Richey attempted to end the special session with a resolution that was not picked up.

The House voted on whether to suspend the rules to allow Richey’s resolution to be heard and voted on. Only six members voted to suspend the rules to allow it to be considered.

In an interview with The Pamphleteer, House Speaker Cameron Sexton addressed the idea of adjourning saying the following:

“And, you know, I know there’s some people who say, ‘”‘Well, you should adjourn and go home.'”‘ I don’t believe in that. I think that is not doing our duty, that’s not answering the call of the governor…. I think beneficially, you know, defeating the Red Flag Law and not passing it sends a message, as well as finding solutions that would have real impact, that would solve the situation without limiting someone’s constitutional liberty, freedom, and Second Amendment rights.”

Tennesseans do not yet know what will become of this special session, but all eyes are on Nashville as the week goes on.
