An operation by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents led to a number of arrests in Greeneville last week.
According to an agency spokesperson, “several” illegal aliens were taken into custody last Wednesday.
The operation was a joint effort by several federal, state, and local agencies. The Greene County Sheriff’s Office participates in the 287(g) program that allows specified officers to perform certain immigration related tasks.
An employee from Jersey Mike’s Subs in Greeneville allegedly showed a photograph taken by another employee to a reporter from the Greeneville Sun. The photo was said to have been taken from a truck parked behind China Buffet, which is located next to Jersey Mike’s.
In the photo, ten people are seen sitting on the curb with four officers standing in front of them. A customer inside Jersey Mike’s also allegedly showed the reporter another photograph that showed the same thing from a different angle.
No other details were released, and investigations are still “active, ongoing” according to the spokesperson.
