Senator Brent Taylor is calling out a Shelby County judge for releasing yet another dangerous criminal back on to the streets of Memphis, despite opposition from the District Attorney.

Tyreese Earnest is charged with attempted second-degree murder, employment of a firearm, reckless endangerment, and vandalism in connection with a shooting outside the FedEx World Hub on October 30.

Earnest was identified as the shooter and was originally jailed with a $200,000 bond. He was later “released on his own recognizance,” meaning he was allowed to leave jail freely without posting bail.

District Attorney Steve Mulroy says he opposed the decision made by General Sessions Court Judge Bill Anderson.

“As you know by now, the District Attorney’s office can argue for bond and against ROR, but the judge makes the decision. In this case, the court disagreed with our assessment and recommendations,” Mulroy said in part.

Senator Taylor called Anderson out in a post on X, stating that “this is getting out of hand.”

“Here I am trying to Make Memphis Matter to get a grip on our crime, and we have this sad excuse for a judge releasing dangerous criminals on our streets,” Taylor said.

Taylor also referenced an already pending complaint against Judge Anderson to the Board of Judicial Conduct. The previous complaint alleges that Anderson “failed to familiarize himself with new laws regarding bail and completely misstated the law in the bail hearing.”

The hearing resulted in the suspect in a shooting outside Railgarten in Midtown Memphis being released.

“I suppose we shouldn’t be surprised he’s done it again,” Taylor stated.

Mulroy says his office is prepared to jail the FedEx shooter again if the need arises.

“Be sure if the defendant violates the terms of release, we will be ready to ask the court to reincarcerate him. As for the case, we will further investigate, build a strong case, and prosecute vigorously,”  said Mulroy.

  1. Lets not put anyone violent away in prison, find excuses to do just that.
Then lets enact more and more gun control

    It worked in Chicago right?

  2. The state is failing to protect it’s citizens. Criminal friendly judges in collusion with Marxist, perverts and enemies of law and order are to be removed by the state legislature. Those legislators who refuse to vote for removal of judges that shelter dangerous criminals are guilty of malfeasance, treason and accessories to the crimes committed by the defendant and the conspiring judge. This judge should face life in prison without parole eligibility and loss of all benefits and pensions associated with his failed public service.
