Tennessee Democratic State Representative Gloria Johnson said on Monday that she believes chanting “Let’s Go, Brandon” should be considered the equivalent of setting fire to the American flag.

The Knoxville representative tweeted on about the phrase, which is used as a criticism of President Joe Biden.

“As a friend said, I think it should be equated with burning the flag, in essence, that’s what they are doing,” Johnson wrote.

In a follow-up tweet, Johnson said that people needed to realize that her comparison was “not a legal take, it’s a person’s opinion. And as a few were smart enough to understand – both are protected speech.”

The phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” gained quick popularity after NBC did an interview with NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Brandon Brown.

During the interview, the crowd began chanting “F— Joe Biden.” News reporter Kelli Stavast stated that they were chanting “Let’s Go Brandon” to support Brown.

After the interview went viral, the phrase “Let’s Go Brandon” became a quick way to criticize Biden.

Burning the US Flag = Denigration of the nation as a whole. I despise that action but will defend the right of any person to express their opinion in that manner. (I’ll stand by with a fire extinguisher.)
Chanting “Let’s Go Brandon” = Legitimate criticism of a man representing a reprehensible philosophy that has been responsible for the destruction of every society that has implemented it.
There is no logical correlation between the two things she is comparing.

I think that burning the flag is showing total disrespect for the country. People chanting their disrespect for a person is different. I will continue to show my feelings towards the current administration as others still show theirs for the last administration. There is no comparison here.

For over 4 years, the people on the right have heard terrible things being said about our candidate Donald Trump. There have been many outright lies in the media and in every walk of life. It went on and on. Now that the shoe is on the other foot, the Dems are having a hard time coping with it. As the old saying goes, “If you can’t take it, then don’t dish it out.”

I think that burning the flag shows total disrespect for our country just like kneeling during the national anthem. But expressing your disrespect for our President is okay because we heard it for four years about Trump. I personally will not say “Lets go Brandon” because of what that means. I don’t cuss our President and I can’t stand this one. Instead of using the off color statement just call Biden an Idiot and let it go at that. The whole administration are sorry.

I love that people have been handed a way to show their contempt for an out of control administration without using an expletive in public. We owe a vote of thanks to the NBC reporter who gave us this phrase when she tried to tell us that we weren’t hearing what we were clearing hearing.
