TVA To Raise Rates To Fund ‘Green’ Energy Initiatives

The Tennessee Valley Authority Board of Directors approved a $15 billion plan to upgrade their system while also taking action to increase energy rates for customers.
The plan was approved at their Thursday meeting in Chattanooga, allocating the funds to be spent over the next three years.
The board also voted unanimously in favor of a 4.5% increase in the current rate. This increase will add an average of approximately $3.50 to customers’ monthly bills. TVA officials say the increase is necessary to “ensure the region has the energy it needs to meet growing demand and economic development.”
According to TVA officials, “TVA is focused on meeting growing electricity demand while maintaining energy security and moving to a net-zero carbon future.”
TVA President Jeff Lyash said, “It took us 90 years to build out current power system which positively changes the lives of millions. In the next 30 years, we will have to double or triple the current systems at a speed unlike any other time in TVA history to ensure we can continue to provide affordable, reliable, resilient, and sustainable energy to fuel the region’s economic growth.”
About 2% of the energy used in the United States in 1950 came from electricity. Now, that usage is around 22%.
Officials note that, while they made major investments in their system over the last four years, their rates remained the same. However, Lyash says, “TVA is not immune to cost increase, inflation, and supply chain challenges.”
He went on to explain that, despite the increase in rates, “TVA’s energy costs remain lower than 70 percent of the nation’s top 100 utilities.”
TVA is no stranger to investment in their structure, putting $25 billion into existing and new generation over the past ten years. They are currently in the process of adding 3800 megawatts of new generation and have plans to add even more.
They are also going to be investing $100 million into “energy efficiency” to help offset the new load growth over the next ten years along with more than 10,000 megawatts of new solar energy by 2035.

TVA should not give in to the greentards within and outside of the government and shut down its coal-fired power plants. These units provide reliable and firm baseload capacity in contrast to unreliable and intermittent wind-powered and solar-powered sources, and don’t even get me started on the flammable expensive lithium-ion batteries. If possible, TVA should restart construction on its canceled nuclear power plants since it has already invested billions of dollars in them, Bellefonta being the nearest one to completion. By the way, it’s ridiculous that it should take a decade or more to build a nuclear power plant when decades ago it took only several years.

How do we combat these bad decisions? TVA is a monopoly that is making bad decisions. Other utility companies, such as the one in Texas, chose to go renewable and now they have black outs with folks freezing to death. What is wrong with these people?

Net-carbon zero is a farce. Trees need carbon dioxide and water and sun light to create oxygen which people need to breathe in to survive. MAKE CARBON THE ENEMY. BLOCK OUT THE SUN and more trees and people will die. All of TVA customers need to think creatively to decrease dependence on electricity, but this false narrative of decreasing carbon is not the answer. It’s just a scam to create fear so people will become willing to give up their sovereign freedoms.
“Going Green” means “Going Red (as in communism)”. There is hardly a bigger SCAM on the planet than Global Warming and Climate Change. Who has not seen the pictures of the seashore from locations all over the world from the early 1900s and TODAY? The sea level IS THE SAME TODAY AS IT WAS OVER 100 YEARS AGO. And, if the coasts were going to be under water why do nearly all of the political crime families have 2nd, 3rd, and 4th homes on the coasts? Because they know that Global Warming and Climate Change are NOTHING BUT TOTAL SCAMS TO CONTROL PEOPLE. Thank God, there are so many smart people that have figured this out that much of the world is not buying their lies.

Board members are basically a political gimme, as quid-pro-quo.
Beth Harwell former Tn house speaker, helped Haslam get massive tax increase passed. Couldn’t win another term, so she tucked tail & made for the door. Some how someone (probably Tn RINO party) recommended her to Trump to appoint her to an open board slot. Now she pulls in >2m$ annually.
Also on that www is position for dir. of nutrition for the tva facility = >130k$ annually. That tells me we are also paying for employees meals or least facility food services.
If I recall correctly 3-4 yrs ago several companies showed how tva could be split up, reduce rates, still make a profit and improve service.
Once a government program always will be. AS OBSOLETE AND BURDENSOME AS IT IS, TVA IS THE QUINT ESSENTIAL EXAMPLE OF GOVERNMENT EXCEEDING AND OUT LIVING ITS ORIGINAL NEED & PURPOSE. AND TRULY NEEDS TO BE ABOLISHED
