Senator Bo Watson (R-Hixson) has organized four sessions across Hamilton County to hear public opinions on public education funding in Tennessee.

Watson states that the town hall-style meetings will allow Tennesseans to participate in a full review of the state’s public education funding formula and share what matters most to them.

“These discussions will help create a more student-centered funding approach that incentivizes positive outcomes, ensures all students are served at a high level, empowers parents to engage in their child’s education and reflects the values of our community.

Everyone is encouraged to participate by giving feedback on what matters most to you in funding public schools,” Watson posted on his Facebook page.

Representative Robin Smith (R-Hixson) recently posted an invite on her Facebook page stating, “Hixson, Soddy Daisy, Stuart Heights, North Chattanooga, Downtown and Sale Creek parents, taxpayers and neighbors, please accept the invitation of Senator Bo Watson and join me at Abba’s House on Thursday, January 20 from 6-7:30 am to hear information, offer feedback and comments while understanding the process of the reforms being considered in state funding of public education in K-12.”

Smith went on to write, “For decades, Tennesseans have been promised fixes for the 40% or less proficiencies for reading at grade levels. Layers upon layers of programs, supplemental work and ‘consultants’ have moved the needle, but reading is the foundation for all learning. Literacy has to be the priority, yet, continues to be elusive as teachers fight for time to teach, instruct between disruptive kids, social directives and  other drains on their time and reach.”
