Speaker of the House Cameron Sexton (R-Crossville-District 25) officially announced committee assignments for the 114th General Assembly’s first extraordinary session.
There will be a total of seven special session committees in the House of Representatives:
- Disaster Relief Committee
- Immigration Committee
- Education Committee
- Finance, Ways and Means Committee
- Government Operations Committee
- Transportation Committee
- Calendar and Rules Committee
On Wednesday, Jan. 15th, Gov. Bill Lee (R-TN) announced that he was calling the Tennessee legislature into a special legislative session “to pass the Education Freedom Act.”
The governor’s call also included a disaster relief package for Hurricane Helene victims in East Tennessee and public safety measures regarding illegal immigration.
The special or “extraordinary” session began Monday, Jan. 27th, 2025 and is expected by some to wrap up in just one week’s time.
Rep. Scott Cepicky (R-Culleoka-District 64) has been appointed as Chairman of the special session House Education Committee and Rep. William Slater (R-Gallatin-District 35) has been appointed Vice-Chairman.
The remaining lawmakers assigned to the special session House Education Committee, who will be deciding whether Gov. Lee’s school voucher legislation makes it to the House floor, include:
