Tennessee Conservative News [By Paula Gomes] –
Williamson County Schools Superintendent Jason Golden has resigned following a school board vote that extended his contract by only a year.
Eight days later, Golden stepped down, writing in his resignation letter that the decision had not been easy.
Golden wrote that he valued his time in the school district and that working alongside “such dedicated, passionate, and talented educators and staff” meant that “meaningful progress” was made on behalf of students in Williamson County.
Next stop for Golden is with Franklin Special District where he has accepted a position as the Associate Director of Finance Administration and Legal Services effective August 7th.

Golden did not state a specific reason for resigning, but some members of the Williamson County Board of Education blamed a lack of support for the Superintendent. District 10 member Eric Welch wrote in a Facebook post that “toxic elements and individuals” on the board should “own whatever comes next.”
District 5 member Jay Galbreath said in his own post that some members of the board sought to undermine Golden’s leadership and wanted him “gone.”
While many in the community are sad to see Golden go, others remember his leadership during the pandemic and are glad to say goodbye.
In 2021, the board voted to remove the county’s mask mandate despite Golden’s recommendation to defer a vote pending a federal court hearing.
In addition, during the Biden administration when new regulations were introduced to Title IX that would have changed the definition of “sex” to include “gender identity,” Golden made it clear that the changes would be enforced in Williamson County Schools despite Tennessee, along with other states, filing lawsuits against the U.S. Department of Education, challenging the federal overhaul.
Other members of the community say that under Golden’s leadership, bullying became worse and that overall, his performance had not been great.
