The Interim Superintendent for Hamilton County Schools is pushing for faculty, staff, and students to use their Fall Break time to take the COVID-19 vaccine.
Last week, Interim Superintendent Dr. Nakia Towns released a video message from Hamilton County Schools to discuss the first quarter of school and update the community on Hamilton County Schools’ current status in regards to COVID-19.
“To say that this first quarter has been challenging is an understatement. Just when we thought the pandemic was behind us, we were overwhelmed with a record number of COVID-19 cases among our students and staff,” Towns said.
At the time of the video’s release, the school system’s current 5-day trend showed 1602 active cases of the virus.
Towns noted many of the measures that the district has taken to help slow the spread of COVID-19, including vaccination of teacher and staff.
“We are encouraged that we are approaching 75 percent of our teachers and over 71 percent of our overall staff getting vaccinated to protect themselves, their colleagues, and our students from the severe health threat posed by COVID-19,” she said.
Towns was joined in the video by School Board Member Tucker McClendon. McClendon stated that they recognized how much teachers and staff had been asked to do as they reopened schools this year.
“Our HCS heroes continue to rise to the challenge to ensure that all children thrive and experience a future without limits,” McClendon said.

Towns finished the update by pushing for people to use their fall break vacation to go get vaccinated.
“We want to wish everyone a well-deserved, restful fall break. As you enjoy time with those you love, we encourage you to consider vaccination if you haven’t already done so or getting the booster shot,” Towns said.

To all our “HCS hero’s”, there are a number of medical “heros” who worked throughout the initial stages of the pandemic without the vaccine. If they refused the vaccine, as demanded by their employer, they are now likely unemployed. From hero’s to goats in a few months time. You may be next.
