‘Appalling’: Abortion Advocacy Groups Received Nearly $2B In Taxpayer Money

The Center Square [By Casey Harper] –

Abortion-providing groups received $1.89 billion in taxpayer money from fiscal years 2019 to 2021, a newly released federal watchdog report shows.

The Government Accountability Office, a federal agency, conducted the report at lawmakers’ request, showing that Planned Parenthood received the lion’s share, taking in $1.78 billion in those years. Planned Parenthood is estimated to have performed more than one million abortions during that time.

U.S. Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., alleged Planned Parenthood, which received $90.4 million from the Paycheck Protection Program during the COVID-19 pandemic, received that money illegally, saying it was intended for struggling small businesses.

“It is appalling that big abortion providers are continuing to receive billions of dollars in federal taxpayer funding,” Blackburn said in a statement. “While small businesses struggled to make ends meet during the pandemic, Planned Parenthood illegally siphoned over $90 million from the Paycheck Protection Program, specifically designed to help our mom and pop shops keep their doors open.

“The American people want their tax dollars spent responsibly and in line with our nation’s values — not on the Left’s abortion-on-demand agenda.”

The federal funding to Planned Parenthood came in large part via reimbursements from Medicaid, Medicare, and CHIP to the tune of $1.53 billion with another $148.5 million via federal grants.

According to the GAO report, annual federal grant money to Planned Parenthood has quadrupled since 2019, possibly showing a change in sentiment between the Trump and Biden administration.

GAO found that the International Planned Parenthood Federation also received $2.03 million and MSI Reproductive Choices took in $1.35 million in taxpayer dollars while four more regional abortion providers were paid a total of $107.74 million by the federal government.

The report came after a coalition of House and Senate Republicans in 2022 called on the GAO to provide the report.

The lawmakers requested the report because of previous reporting showing that in fiscal years 2016-2018, almost $2 billion in taxpayer funding went to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Marie Stopes International, and International Planned Parenthood Federation, all abortion-providing and advocacy groups.

Despite backlash, that trend has continued.

“GAO found that Planned Parenthood received a whopping $1.78 billion between 2019-2021 while the nation was struggling with the COVID-19 pandemic,” said U.S. Rep. Chris Smith, R-N.J., and the Co-Chair of the House Pro-Life Caucus. “Federal taxpayer dollars should not be funneled to big abortion corporations like Planned Parenthood, which has killed over 9.3 million unborn children since 1970, including 1.11 million between 2019-2021. This money would have been better spent helping the businesses that were forced to close or providing comprehensive medical support for both women and children.”

Is there something physically wrong with our young women these days? Is there some medical reason the only birth control method they can use is abortion? Then call it “Healthcare”? Is there some reason they cannot pay for an abortion themselves? If that was required, I’m sure the abortion totals would go down considerably.

Yeah, this truly sucks. But, it’s really just more Repubican pearl clutching over the abortion issue, which they won in the Supreme Court and have never been so unhappy, having lost a major talkingpoint.
    So, keep talkng about it!
It’s also the pot calling the kettle black given the Republican preferred tax funded subsidies, especially to Israel’s mass murdering in Gaza or Title IX which was fine until some guys hacked their way into it, which brings us to Dylan Mulvaney and Bud Lite. Despite being genuinely damaged goods, Mulvaney provided the only real victory conservatives have acheived yet. The rest is just a bucket of wind and “Pastor” Jiohn Hagee, which amount to the same thing.
It calls the entire American Experiment nto question. After all these wars fought to make the world safe democracy, it isn’t safe for anything anymore. In fact, America isn’t safe because the Amrican Way seems to have become rule by a moneyed minority in an economic system in which wealth is more a matter of who one knows rather than what one knows and money is the gatekeeper to power i.e. these people who rule us are not smart. What they mostly rant about is their ownpersonal peeves never mnd the enormous task of ruling 327 million people which would be bewilderingly diverse enough without deliberately making it more so which they because they are stupid.
When all esle fails, blow up Russia’s Nordstream pipeline by of increasing market share and good ol’customer satisfaction even if it tanks Geramny’s economy, which it has.
The end of Ukraine was obvious from the start.
Isreal will probably end up another basket case for similar reasons to which we can now add a whithering market for U.S. Treasury Bonds.
All of this points to autocracies gaining global predominance because despite partisan politics always managing to find the checks, it never achieves a balance and just writes checks to everyone concerned. Bet on the dumbest soluttion to any issue and you’ll beat the odds. The idea was that most people would either know or become convinced of the right answer, which still happens. It just doesn’t make any difference. Even the Republican Supreme Court win on abortion really didn’t achieve much.
Maybe the real answer to abortion is that mental health issue always bandied about and the fact that a ddwindling number of people are in any way inspired by the incessant bickering of our chatttering class who run things.

90% of women getting abortions are Libs and 80% of those are unwed and on welfare. There have been 20 million abortions since 1975. Without abortion America would be totally controlled by Libs.

This group does not need any taxpayer money that can be used to help the States Veterans.
Hell, the Gates Eugenicist’s Foundation has more than enough bucks to give.
