In the environment of mask mandates, school closures, unlawful forced business closures, and the unconstitutional attempt to limit the first amendment right of Tennessee citizens to assemble and worship, a group of Johnson City residents concluded in the spring of 2020 that it was time to organize, draw a line in the sand, and reject tyranny.

They did exactly that.

Danielle Goodrich was transformed from the proverbial soccer mom to a firebrand activist. Dr. Denise Sibley with over 30 years of experience practicing internal medicine, joined Goodrich and Pastor Paul Miller of Calvary Chapel Tri-Cities to form Johnson City Freedom, now called East Tennessee Freedom. They manage a group of more than 2200 members in seven counties, a force to reckon with especially if you are an elected official.

Gone are the days when people cower down and yield to unconstitutional behavior by local, state, and federal government. East Tennessee Freedom is a Christian constitutional conservative organization that participates in elections, works with state legislators on policy, and educates the public through social media, news media, classes, and informative monthly meetings.

Their most recent meeting occurred on Tuesday September 3, 2024, at Calvary Chapel, Johnson City.

Dr. Sibley, a nationally known expert on treatment of vaccine injury, made a presentation on vaccine detox products, ivermectin, and warned those in attendance of the effort of the extreme left and globalists to exercise what she described as “fatal censorship.” “They don’t want you to know the truth.” said Sibley.

In attendance were three state legislators and several activists from across the region. Senator Rusty Crowe (R-Johnson City), Representatives Tim Hicks (R-Gray) and Rebecca Alexander (R-Jonesborough), each provided a legislative update and fielded questions from the membership.

Their answers and comments were well-received.

The consensus among the legislators that were in attendance is that public policy decisions should be made with moral and biblical principles as guideposts, Alexander quoting from scripture to make her case. They also encouraged churches to get involved in the political process.

There were two issues discussed by the capacity crowd that all three legislators seem to agree on:

1) state sovereignty through the nullification process and,

2) repeal or amend the governor’s “Emergency Powers Act.” It was Governor Lee’s executive orders and exercise of so-called emergency powers that motivated citizens to organize, create grassroots groups, and to stand against unconstitutional mandates.

East Tennessee Freedom’s mission is “to uphold God-Given Rights through education and advocacy.” They operate in seven counties, Washington, Sullivan, Carter, Unicoi, Greene, Hawkins, and Johnson providing voter guides, holding constitution and biblical citizenship classes, providing leadership training to public officials and others, and run for office classes. They oppose communism, Marxism, and socialism.

Their moto is from John 8:32: “Then you will know the truth and the truth shall set you free”.
