Employee Medical Freedom, Over-The-Counter Ivermectin Bills Introduced In TN Legislature (Update 2/10/22)

There have been several good bills introduced this week in the Tennessee Legislature related to Medical Freedom and Health, most of which we covered in stand-alone articles.

Here are three more bills that have just been introduced that we believe Conservatives in the state of Tennessee will also care about.

#1 – Exemptions / Reasonable Accommodations For Employees Who Refuse Employer-required Medical Procedures

House Bill 2117 (HB2117), sponsored by Representative John Ragan (R-Oak Ridge-District 33), and Senate Bill 2156 (SB2156) sponsored by Senator Joey Hensley (R-Hohenwald-District 28), as introduced, would require an employer with a policy requiring employees to receive a medical procedure to provide an exemption and reasonable accommodations to each employee who refuses to receive the medical procedure based on the employee’s religious beliefs; defines “medical procedure” as any drug, device, or product for which use is authorized by an emergency use authorization by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and includes the COVID-19 vaccine. – Amends TCA Title 4; Title 14 and Title 50.

HB2117 was introduced on 2/2/22.  SB2156 was introduced and passed on first consideration on the same date.

#2 – Prohibiting Discrimination By Employer Compelling Disclosure Of Medical Records Of Employee

House Bill 2199 (HB2199), sponsored by Representative Kelly Keisling (R-Byrdstown-District 38), and Senate Bill 2096 (SB2096) , sponsored by Senator Mark Pody (R-Lebanon-District 17), would prohibit as a discriminatory practice a person, including a government or entity, from compelling disclosure of a health record by an individual unless disclosure is required by federal law; prohibits as a discriminatory employment practice an employer from compelling disclosure of a health record by an employee unless disclosure is required by federal law. – Amends TCA Title 4; Title 8; Title 33; Title 50; Title 63 and Title 68.

HB2199 was introduced on 2/2/22.  SB2096 was introduced and passed on first consideration on the same date.

#3 – Over-the-counter Ivermectin (bi-partisan legislation)

House Bill 2746 (HB2746), sponsored by Representative Joe Towns, Jr. (D-Memphis-District 84), and Senate Bill 2188 (SB2188), sponsored by Senator Frank Niceley (R-Strawberry Plains-District 8) would authorize ivermectin suitable for human use to be sold or purchased as an over-the-counter medication in Tennessee without a prescription or consultation with a pharmacist or certain other healthcare professional. – Amends TCA Title 4; Title 14; Title 47; Title 53; Title 63; Title 68 and Title 71.

HB2746 was introduced on 2/2/22.  SB2188 was introduced and passed on first consideration on the same date.
