GOP Doctors Caucus Demand Answers On How Biden Administration Plans To Secure Southern Border

U.S. Representative Diana Harshbarger (R-TN), a member of the GOP Doctors Caucus, has joined her colleagues in demanding answers from the Biden Administration on how they plan to secure the Southern Border.

Harshbarger states, “The Biden border crisis is fueling America’s drug overdose problem. Cartels are exploiting our porous southern border to smuggle more lethal, illicit substances into our country and our communities. You would be hard pressed to find someone who hasn’t been affected by the drug crisis.

This surge in fentanyl and fentanyl-related substances crossing our border is contributing to the rise in drug overdoses seen in America today. The people who are taking these drugs have, in most cases, no idea what they are putting into their bodies. More counterfeit pills have been seized at our border this year than in the past two years combined. This is a clear sign that the border is open wider than ever.  It’s far past time for President Biden to get serious about securing our border.”

In a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, the GOP Doctors Caucus request a prompt response of the following questions.

1. What is the Administration’s plan to address the fentanyl crisis at our Southern Border?
2. What is the Administration’s strategy to educate the public about the fentanyl-laced drugs that pose a serious threat to our communities?  Are there any public health measures being taken to alert the American people?
3. What is the Administration doing to bolster support for CBP (Customs and Border Protection) as drug seizures and illegal migrant apprehensions are at record highs?
4. On February 18, 2022, the emergency class-wide scheduling order for fentanyl-related substances is set to expire.  Given the gravity of the border and drug crisis, will the Administration commit to supporting efforts to make the emergency class-wide scheduling order for fentanyl related substances permanent?
