A 4th Grade math teacher in Hamilton County who moonlighted as a drag queen for nearly 10 years – almost the entirety of his teaching career – has hung up his heels upon being promoted to Assistant Principal (AP) at East Ridge Elementary School.
Jonathan Berry, who completed an Aspiring Assistant Principal LEAD program in April, was announced as one of the new assistant principal assignments for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year by Hamilton County Schools on May 16th.
In this interview from 2021, a masked Berry acknowledges that he and drag queen Stacie Rect are one and the same.
In the video, Berry states that he keeps his drag queen persona “secret” from those at work, but upon close inspection, he is clearly wearing a lanyard around his neck upon which the words “East Ridge Elementary” are printed.
Berry said that when he started doing drag he thought of it as a fun, casual hobby but later as he “grew in the craft, and the art form” he considered pursuing drag as a career. Evidently, something changed his mind.
Before Berry deleted his social media pages for his side gig, his alter ego “Stacie Rect” had a titillating tagline that read “The Erection of Perfection and the S in #SASS.”
While most traces of Stacie Rect’s “career” have been removed from the internet, there remain a couple of videos from Berry’s early forays into drag here and here.
Berry attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tennessee, where he studied Middle Grades and Elementary Education and spent time as part of the Christian university’s choir, the Lee Singers. Berry graduated from Lee in the fall of 2014 and completed a Masters Degree last year at Carson Newman.
Approximately a year into the beginning of his teaching career in Athens City Schools as a 4th Grade Math and Science teacher at North City School in 2015, Berry began doing drag as a “hobby” and only gave it up after his promotion to AP.
In this social media post from a fellow “sister,” Berry’s last show was May 24th. Drag Queen Anastasia L’amour wrote that “Stacie” was saying “farewell to drag” but would continue to “THRIVE in their professional career.”
In 2018, Berry also began participating in Drag Queen pageants, winning Miss TN Christmas, being crowned Chattanooga’s first Miss TN Sweetheart in 2019, and then Miss Cookeville Pride in 2022.
In 2020, Berry worked with the Chattanooga Pride Board as its Vice President, and later, as President.
Hamilton County Schools has had its fair share of controversial teachers in its schools the past few years.
In 2023, we reported on a male substitute teacher at East Ridge Elementary who was dressed as a woman and insisted that children call him “Mrs.”
In 2024, a cross-dressing substitute teacher at Soddy Daisy Middle School sparked outrage amongst community members when the sub allegedly insisted that students only address him using a female title.
According to parents, the man became agitated after 12 and 13-year-old students referred to him as “Sir,” prompting his demand that they call him “Ma’am.”
One student took a photo of the man during class and a parent of the student posted the photo to social media, where it was quickly shared many times over.
The photo shows a man wearing what appears to be a turtleneck with a skirt, or possibly a dress, with sheer, black hose and tall women’s boots. His facial appearance and hair is otherwise of typical male presentation.
For many local parents in this rural and conservative area, this was the first time they were made aware of this particular sub working in their children’s schools. A week earlier, the man allegedly made an appearance at Hixson Elementary School also.
Meanwhile in Davidson County, a Nashville Middle School teacher openly advertises his side hustle as a Drag Queen.
Benjamin Slinkard who has been employed for Metro Nashville Public Schools for the past thirteen years, makes no secret of moonlighting as “Kennedy Ann Scott,” and is the Drag Queen in residence at Nashville’s well known gay bar, the Lipstick Lounge where he regularly hosts events.
Slinkard also had the dubious honor of hosting the main stage during the three-day Nashville Pride Festival this past weekend.

Unreal…..is it any wonder that Bill’s bill BARELY passed and all his wealthy friends that go to private school ALREADY are INSURING that they’ll get to go to their PRIVATE schools with tax payer subsidies? SHAMEFUL and ABHORRENT!
These predators, who go into teaching, do so for their access to children. They have a mental illness for which there is No Cure and should not be allowed anywhere near a child.

You have no right to call someone ignorant or walking as Jesus Christ would. READ verse 32 very carefully. “they which commit such things are worthy of death.” It doesn’t get anymore explicit then that. Maybe you should read the whole Bible before you make a statement like you did. Here’s another Bible verse for you.

5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.
As you can read homosexuality and this perversion are a sin in God’s eyes. I pray you get right with God.
