The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Tennessee announced last Friday that the Federal Bureau of Investigation arrested a Knoxville man on July 16 who made death threats against several local and national public officials on social media.

Gary Lee Williams, 44, was taken into custody by FBI agents on a complaint involving interstate transmission of threats to kill public officials, according to the press release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

According to the arrest warrant and other supporting documents, Williams is accused of threatening to kill President Donald Trump, FBI Director Kash Patel, Knoxville Police Chief Paul Noel, Knox County Sheriff Tom Spangler, and others in “repeated posts and videos” he shared on social media platforms, including TikTok.

The Knox County online court reporting system lists Williams as homeless and shows he pleaded guilty in 2002 to charges of aggravated assault, reckless endangerment, and theft.

Williams made his first appearance in court on July 17 and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on August 25 at 1:30 P.M.

A trial will be scheduled at a later date, per the DOJ.

  1. The amount of mentally ill/psychotic individuals wandering the streets or engaging in homelessness needs to be examined closely in every city, county and state. These people are a danger to themselves and in his instance anyone who would disagree with his views. Drugs, alcohol and brainwashing are a huge problem in this nation. There are nefarious forces in all aspects of our schools, some churches, government (leftist/globalist influence) and he whole prowls around looking for whom he can devour. What is the Knoxville and surrounding communities doing to get involved to remedy these problems? I Knoxville has an immoral leftist bent with the Chamber of Commerce recommending gay bars as tourist attractions…. This speaks volumes.
