Agents from the West Tennessee Drug Task Force seized over 12 pounds of ecstasy pills in Memphis on Monday.
The shipment, which came from Houston, included more than 21,000 pills. It had been sent with a Memphis destination.
According to District Attorney Steve Mulroy, “This bulk amount, traveling cross-county, means organized crime on a big scale. I’m glad our DTF agents were able to intercept it.”
Agents are not releasing any additional information at this time due to the pending investigation.
Last week, agents from Shelby County’s 30th Judicial District were called to a Memphis hotel by a State of Tennessee Probation and Parole Officer. The officer told police that he was in town for training and “found something suspicious” in his hotel room.
When agents arrived, they found over 6000 pressed fentanyl pills, vacuum sealed and wrapped in black electrical tape hidden in a chair.
The officer told agents that he noticed a key fall when he moved the chair and then saw the package upon closer inspection.
Agents are conducting an investigation and will do forensics testing on the package.
