The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –
Republican lawmaker William Slater (Dist. 35-Gallatin) has filed a bill that would provide veterans with discounts at state parks at the same rates that are offered to state employees.
HB0328 would ensure discounts “for activities, retail purchases, camping, and lodging at state parks to veterans who are Tennessee residents with the same frequency, and at the same rates, as the discounts for activities, retail purchases, camping, and lodging at state parks that are offered to state employees.”
Additionally, the legislation would also guarantee Tennessee veterans who have service-connected permanent total disabilities receive a discount of at least 50% for camping and overnight cabin lodging fees at state parks.
The discount is “subject to availability as determined by the commissioner, and only applies to reservations made within 30 days of the intended stay.”
The bill is being co-sponsored by Senator Ferrell Haile (R- Dist. 18-Gallatin) under the designation SB0249.
Though Haile often runs with the RINO crowd, this appears to be a decent piece of legislation with no ulterior designs, aimed only at providing additional benefits to veterans who have sacrificed much in service to their state and country.
