An Overton County teacher has been issued a formal reprimand by the Tennessee Board of Education for inappropriate physical contact and discipline of a student.

According to the reprimand, Annette Vaughn, a teacher at an Overton County elementary school, “pulled the student by the arm and grabbed him by the waistband before picking the student up and carrying him down the hallway.”

Vaughn was suspended by the school district for five days, was given a formal reprimand, and was required to complete restraint training.

State law notes that a formal reprimand is a “less harsh licensing action” than a suspension while it also serves as a warning that “inappropriate conduct is discouraged and shall be subject to further disciplinary action if repeated.”

According to reports, Vaughn signed an agreement to the terms of the reprimand.

Beats the hell out of calling the cops over and unruly student. When I was a dumbass teen, a teacher gave me a bloody nose. The nose was unintentional because she meant to just slap my face. That woman fought back tears, fearing I would report her and she would lose her job. She didn’t beg me not to tell, she just said maybe that would teach me some manners. Even as stupid as I was then, I realized that it was me in the wrong, not her. My folks wouldn’t have been happy, I never told them. My folks did teach that we should always take responsibility for whatever we did, good or bad. That day I did. Where the hell were the parents in this episode? My guess is they weren’t happy that their child was a brat and someone took him or her in hand.

Schools need more of the seat of the pants training and taught there are going to be actions for BAD behavior even if they are not taught that at home and the class room would not be a zoo or war room. If the parents do not like it they can school them at home.
