The Tennessee Conservative [By Jason Vaughn] –

A bill that would limit parental rights to withdraw their children from public schools in Tennessee will go before the Senate Education Committee on March 15th.

Senate Bill 0417 (SB0417) is sponsored by State Senator Todd Gardenhire (R-Chattanooga-District 10), who is also a member of that committee.

The law currently allows parents or guardians to withdraw their student from public school for any reason.

The new legislation would amend the law to stipulate that any student who has five or more days of unexcused absences can only be withdrawn for one of the following reasons:

  1. The student’s place of residence changes;
  2. The student is seeking to withdraw to transfer to another school in the LEA or another LEA pursuant to a local board of education’s open enrollment policy or out-of-district transfer policy; or
  3. The student enrolls in a non-public school.

Those opposed to the bill believe it is just another “assault on parent’s rights” and they fear that, if passed, the bill may be amended in the future to include even more regulations to limit parents’ options for their child’s schooling.

Anyone wishing to express their opinion about Senate Bill 00417 is encouraged to contact State Senate Education Committee members using the contact information below prior to that March 15 meeting:

    Follow the money. Somebody’s get paid for this. The proposal has nothing to do with anything other than if enough students are pull out of underperforming schools, that school district will have to find funding elsewhere: i.e. local taxpayers. When the load becomes to onerous, those taxpayer will emigrate and the cycle continues. School systems are dependent on per student dollars. This same nonsense applies to the third grade reading requirements. If a student is held back the system doesn’t get paid for that students attendance. Again and again, follow the money

    This bill needs to go before it gets started. Just another way to limit the parents rights by these Anti-American Education Unions and these bought and paid for Politicians.

    I have said for years, get your kids out of these indoctrination camps. They are producing confused, “woke” morons of the highest level and the goal of destroying the “family unit.” They aim to divide us all, having us all fighting amongst ourselves so we aren’t paying attention to the purposeful destruction of our country. These kids don’t learn the basics for survival as an adult, only how to be angry in the dystopian world the left is creating.
