The Tennessee Conservative [By Olivia Lupia] –
Legislation that seeks to provide parents with greater transparency regarding their children’s medical treatments has been signed by Governor Lee and will soon be officially part of Tennessee law.

SB0259 by Sen. Mark Pody and Rep. Michele Reneau ensures a parent or legal guardian can access their child’s health and treatment records including records regarding mental health, medical treatments, rehabilitation, prescription records, or for treatments provided to the child without parental consent.
The legislation also amends current law to allow minors attending an institution of higher education to be given basic first aid without parental consent.
Democrats objected the bill throughout its legislative journey and it passed mainly along party lines in both chambers.
With the Governor’s signature, the new law will take effect immediately.
