Tennessee Democrats Plan Bus Tour To Push For Gun Control

While Governor Lee has not yet officially requested a special legislative session, Democrats have announced plans for an eight-stop bus tour to discuss gun violence prior to the anticipated August 21 session date.
The tour will begin next week in Memphis and hit six other cities before ending at the State Capitol in Nashville on the first day of that special session.
House Democratic Caucus Chairman John Ray Clemmons invited Lee and Republicans from the Legislature to join Democratic leaders on the tour stops.
Democrats have continued to call for increased gun control, but House Speaker Cameron Sexton says he does not anticipate any significant gun reform measures in Tennessee.
“I think when I’m out in Tennessee in the rural and suburban areas, outside of Davidson County, people do not want enhanced orders of protection,” Sexton stated.
However, Democrats argue that this is not an accurate assumption.
“Based on every poll I’ve seen, an overwhelming majority of Tennesseans want real, substantive action and substantive policy on this issue,” said Clemmons.
According to Clemmons, polls show strong support for Governor Lee’s emergency relief protection order that would take guns away from individuals who pose a threat to themselves or to others.
“They don’t control the state. The people of Tennessee control this state. They are elected officials,” said Clemmons.
Sexton says the polls are not strong enough evidence to serve as a true indicator of what the people of the state really want.
“Anybody can make a poll, make it say whatever based on whatever the question is, however they want to word it, right?” Sexton said. “So, I think the thing is, it’s a question that you can’t just ask one way, you have to bullet it down to multiple questions.”
Additional stops for the bus tour will be announced in the next few days.
The Tennessee Senate Democratic Caucus also started TNUnderTheGun.com to post information about gun violence.
Meanwhile, Tennessee State Government and Governor Bill Lee are continuing to collect comments from Tennessee citizens ahead of the Special Session.

As usual Democrats attack an inanimate object rather than the root cause. Can they point to one instance where gun control and Red Flag Laws have stopped anything? The answer is no they can’t.
The key word is CONTROL. As long as law abiding citizens bear arms the tyrants can’t achieve total Control.
The solution to gun violence is to enforce the law to the fullest. Bad behavior is not caused by an inanimate object….period. The first murder in the Bible was not caused by a gun. Criminals will always criminal by definition.
I wrote this in response to another article. It could pertain to this article as well.
“Guns don’t kill people! People kill people. Address the real issue! Law abiding citizens obey the laws. Basic facts criminals don’t, there in lies the problem. Enforce the laws and put criminals behind bars. Quit giving them a slap on the wrist. Lock them up with longer sentences.”
