Tennessee is now the state with the 5th most residents searching online for homeschooling information. 

For context, searches for “homeschooling online” have surged 365% in the past year. Given this, Age of Learning surveyed 1,064 parents and aspiring parents to explore their interest in homeschooling, then used Google Trends data from 2021 to 2023 to analyze search volume data for interest in homeschooling across all 50 states and the most populated cities in the U.S.

Key Findings:

Tennessee ranks #5 in the nation for interest in homeschooling (1.64 per 100,000 residents).

Tennessee residents 37% more likely to search for homeschool info than Missouri residents.

Nashville, TN ranks 11th among all U.S. cities in interest in homeschooling (5.84 per 100,000 residents).

Memphis, TN ranks 14th among all U.S. cities in interest in homeschooling (5.48 per 100,000 residents).

69% of parents in the Tennessee region believe homeschooled students should have to participate in state testing.

Foreign Language, Grammar, and Math. are the most popular homeschool subjects in the Tennessee region.

• In Tennessee’s region of the U.S., ‘low ratings of local schools’ is the #1 reason parents now choose homeschooling over traditional schooling.
