With the swift approach of the 2025 legislative session, lawmakers are still in the process of finalizing and filing bills for consideration during the short few months they will gather at the Capitol.

Senator Mark Pody (R-Dist. 17- Lebanon) has filed two pieces of legislation aimed at protecting Tennessee on the state, national, and international levels.

The first, SB0021, would declare that international policymaking organizations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations (UN), and World Economic Forum (WEF) have no jurisdiction or authority within the state and that any federal law or rule based upon a policy or guideline of one such organization would have no authority in the state.

It would also prohibit state governmental entities from adopting or enforcing a law or rule based upon a recommendation of an international policymaking organization unless authorized by state law.

Additionally, it specifies that a state “governmental entity” includes all public educational institutions through postsecondary colleges and universities.

This bill would protect the rights of Tennessee citizens from state, national, or foreign rules or policies that impede upon their Constitutional rights, a topic about which Senator Pody is very passionate after witnessing the havoc and brash government overstep during the Covid era.

In the same vein of monitoring government overreach, Pody’s second filed bill, SB0027, seeks to limit the governor’s emergency authority and powers if they contravene or undermine the rights of the citizenry. It would prohibit orders, proclamations, or rules issued by the governor under his emergency management powers from suspending or conflicting with any part of the Tennessee Constitution.

It would ultimately restrict the governor’s ability under such powers to suspend certain procedural provisions of a law, order, rule, or regulation. The bill would not impede the governor’s ability to issue executive orders or proclamations in emergency times but instead ensures they do not suspend the state constitution and citizens’ rights therein.

These bills fulfill promises Senator Pody has previously made to sponsor legislation on these topics, and he still has several more in progress for the upcoming session.

Pody has been often commended by The Tennessee Conservative and the Tennessee Legislative Report Card (TLRC) for his commitment and efforts to uphold and promote conservative principles.
