Three Bills To End CRT In Tennessee In Subcommittees Next Week

Three bills that would put a stop to Critical Race Theory in Tennessee are now on the calendars of Subcommittees for next week.

Many good bills die in subcommittees and committees before they ever make it to the floor for a vote.  We saw this happen during last year’s General Assembly sessions.  If you support any or all of these bills, be sure to contact the Republican subcommittee members (who hold the supermajority vote) listed below to voice your support before their meetings next Tuesday and Wednesday.

#1 HOUSE BILL 1723

(HB 1723), sponsored by Representative Glen Casada (R-Franklin-District 63), requires an LEA’s policy on the inspection of school instructional materials by parents and legal guardians of students enrolled in the LEA to allow a student’s parent or legal guardian to check out from the student’s school one set of the instructional materials used in the student’s classroom for a period of no less than 48 hours to allow the parent or legal guardian time to inspect the materials. – Amends TCA Title 49.

#2 HOUSE BILL 2313

(HB2313), sponsored by Representative Bruce Griffey (R-Paris-District 75), prohibits a person from requiring an individual, employee, or applicant for employment to complete or participate in training, orientation, or any other instructional or informational program that promotes certain discriminatory concepts.

# 3 HOUSE BILL 2670 / Senate Bill 2290

(HB2670), sponsored by House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R-Crossville-District 25) and companion bill (SB2290), sponsored by Senator Mike Bell (R-Riceville-District 9), allows students and employees of institutions of higher education to not be subject to penalty or discrimination if they choose not to endorse any particular divisive concept. Additionally, no particular belief or ideology can be required as a condition for hiring, tenure, promotion, or graduation.
