TN Plans To Distribute $88M In Federal Funds To Build Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

By the end of September, Tennessee hopes to have approval for what it expects to be an $88.3 million electric vehicle infrastructure plan.

The plan was submitted before Aug. 1 to the federal Joint Office of Energy and Transportation, outlining how it planned to spend $13.7 million of federal funds this fiscal year and the remainder over the following four years as part of $7.5 billion nationally being spent on electric vehicle charging station infrastructure.

The funds will go toward charging station grants for entities in Tennessee with locations within one mile of the designated alternative fuel corridor. That corridor is located along Tennessee’s interstates, including I-24, I-26, I-40, U.S. 64, I-65, I-75 and I-81.

Grantees will need to pay for 20% of any electric charging station project that receives a grant. Applicants that fit the requirements and are the furthest away from current charging stations could be prioritized.

Grantees will be required to maintain the stations for a yet-to-be-determined amount of time.

“Payment requirements under the NEVI program have not yet been developed,” an FAQ on the program said. “However, similar programs in Tennessee have required more than one payment method with a 24/7 phoneline for payment.”

Tennessee’s plan aims to finalize the award process by March and then award those grants by June 30.

The state has organized information on the plan at tn.gov/evplan.

How about TN DOT fix our roads!! Spend the $88M on expanding every federal interstate roadway an additional lane. The trip to Nashville or Chattanooga is ridiculously slow and dangerous on I-40 and I-75. TN highways are antiquated and electric charging stations won’t fix these problems. Repair and improve roads then put in the charging stations!!

When the automobile was introduced did any government agency subsidize any fuel stations? I am not quite old enough to remember that happening. If these coal powered cars are so great, then the free enterprise system will build charging stations. By the way it will be better and faster with out the need for a handout.

Every summer we get the warnings to cut back on our air conditioning because we’re dangerously close to capacity. We got the same warnings this summer until it came out that Federal funds were available to build charging stations. Suddenly we have excess capacity and the bills keep going up. Horse manure is horse manure no matter what color you paint it.

If someone wants to drive an electric car – go 4 it. Not my concern until I have to help U pay 4 it. Tax dollars on both the federal & state level should NEVER be expended to help pay for electric car anything! That includes all taxes used for construction projects to accommodate the vehicles as well as tax credits for purchasing them. How about the environmental issues when the batteries die in 10 years? Who’s paying the bill when they charge a car at these stations…us or them? Has anyone addressed the price tag for special HazMat dump sites? Special dump sites are already necessary for existing electrical vehicles. How many more and how big will they need to be to accommodate future disposal? They require special containment lining due to materials in the batteries…not cheap. Who will construct & run them? Taxpayers will be picking up the price tag for that mess too! Looks like an opportunity for greased palms & kickbacks construction contracts, include the 88M already for distribution here in TN. Taxpayers are forced to appease the Enviro Mafia at the expense of resolving real issues like national infrastructure (bridges/roads/drainage), schools, the border, blight, crime …etc…etc… Surely TN can put that $ to better use for everyone, not just a special class….
Gov Bill WHAT R U THINKING????

NO ONE IS SAFE WHERE is one wants to sit back and be safe with no involvement in the process. VOTE. First, local. Local elections frequently feed state elections. Then, state. Vote against LEE, and while the alternative candidates are not great, Lee will continue to lead us down the the deep hole of deep state. Lee is not thinking, he is following the plan given to him. EVs are part of the liberal, progressive, deep state control plan.
