The Tennessee Conservative Staff –
We The People of West Tennessee hosted the School Choice Symposium on Tuesday, August 20th in Jackson with speakers Gary Humble of Tennessee Stands and Trey Cleek of Americans for Prosperity-Tennessee.
Shawn Graham of Faith in Action moderated and posed questions to the two gentlemen who have differing viewpoints on the “School Choice” issue.
In a post on X, Tennessee Stands wrote, “Want to know more about vouchers and how they might impact Tennessee? This is a great resource.”
In an email, Tennessee Stands wrote:
School vouchers is one of the top political issues right now in Tennessee. It was a leading issue in the most recent Republican primary elections and this issue will be front and center in the upcoming 114th General Assembly.
Tennessee Stands has been at the forefront of this conversation in opposing the Governor’s plan for what they call universal school choice in Tennessee. Americans for Prosperity, on the other hand, has been the leading voice in supporting vouchers and used their national network to oppose Republicans on the ballot who did not agree on the issue.
The issue is complex and deserves robust conversation. You may be on the fence or simply in a place of not understanding all of the arguments being brought to light. Well, this debate is a great opportunity to become intimately familiar with what is on the table here in Tennessee.
We strongly encourage you to take the time to listen in to this long format debate and become part of the discussion with people you know who care about this issue and want to make sure that we get the best outcomes possible for students in Tennessee.
