This commentary concerning Loudon County government follows previous ones related to the secretive and impending substantial property tax increase.
On Monday June 24th, our county commission will vote to impose a property tax increase, despite most of the county not knowing about it. It was done in a secretive and sneaky manner, which is also pretty common for county government.
There has been considerable public outcry from the approximately 10% of county taxpayers aware of the plans, but as usual public comments fall on deaf ears. Opportunity to comment at commission meetings has also been curtailed, as most tyrants will do, despite laws giving the public the right to be heard.
Disregarding the law is a privilege some in county government possess. Count in point, the agenda for Monday’s meeting, except because of the slight of hand in which this budget was manipulated, there will be two meetings a regular meeting and a budget adoption meeting. Which will occur first is unknown mainly because plans are kept secret from the public.
The regular meeting has general public comments as usual, but the budget adoption meeting purposely, and in violation of state law, left off any public comments’ opportunity. Commission meeting agendas are supposedly created by the Chairman Henry Cullen, but this one has Commissioner Shaver’s fingerprints all over it.
By now, I’m pretty exhausted trying to keep up with the games and antics of most members of the county commission. They act more like juvenile delinquents than responsible elected officials.
Gee, I remember a time when elected officials at least pretended to be nice and expressed concern about their constituents. It will take an act of God to prevent the hardworking and retired taxpayers in Loudon County from being subjected to a tax increase at a time when they can least afford it. But, I do believe in miracles.
If you live in Loudon County and don’t need a property tax increase, contact your county commissioners and tell them to just vote no! Maybe for a change they will listen.

If they insist, don’t vote them out, remove them and refuse anything that comes out of their mouths. They are not representing you, they are dominating you
