The Tennessee Conservative [By Jason Vaughn] –

Despite being red flagged by the governor’s office, a bill that would create a process by which the state could nullify actions taken by the federal government continues to make its way through both legislative branches.

House Bill 0726 (HB0726), sponsored by Representative Bud Hulsey (R-Kingsport-District 2), would enact the “Restoring State Sovereignty Through Nullification Act.” The companion Senate Bill 1092 (SB1092) is sponsored by Senator Janice Bowling (R-Tullahoma-District 16).

A representative from Governor Lee’s office was in attendance when the bill was presented to the House Public Service Subcommittee on March 7th.

Valerie Yancey was called on with the expectation that she would oppose the bill, but she opted not to, instead saying, “I think I will live to fight another day. Thank you,” as she walked back to her seat, laughing.

Those opposed to the bill say that they fear the state would lose federal funding by even discussing the possibility of standing up against the federal government. However, Hulsey stated, “every state has a natural right and duty in cases not within the authority of the constitution to nullify of their own authority all assumptions of powers by others within their own state boundaries.”

The Senate bill will go before the State and Local Government Committee on March 14th. The House State Government Committee will hear the bill the following day in their March 15th meeting.

All supporters are urged to contact their legislators using the contact information below prior to those meetings if in favor of this legislation to help protect the sovereignty of the Volunteer State.

  1. The states created the federal government at the ratification of the Constitution. It’s time the potter tells the clay what’s up.

  2. So Gov. Lee would go against the Constitution of the U.S. in order NOT to loose a few dollars from the Fed. Gov. and sell out Tenn.? This is a TRUE Traitor. I will remember this comes Election day.

    1. I have already voted against him in the last election. Classic rino. I voted for Mr. Gentry a constitutional republican. A much better republican. We really need to vet the candidates come election time.
In God we trust not government or man.
      Have a blessed day.

  3. Our constitutional rights should be first, he will have to be booted out come election time and his cronies.
