The Tennessee Conservative [By Adelia Kirchner] –
In a December 2nd press release, the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association (CSPOA) announced its full support for the deportation plans outlined by President-elect Donald Trump and former ICE Director Tom Homan.
Trump announced last month that Homan would be joining the upcoming Trump Administration as the new border czar.
“The plan aims to address issues of individuals residing in the United States unlawfully and emphasizes the critical role of sheriffs in ensuring effective implementation,” the CSPOA noted.
“CSPOA highlights the unique position of sheriffs, who possess in-depth knowledge of their communities, to assist in identifying individuals involved in criminal activities or posing threats to public safety. By leveraging this localized expertise, the deportation process can prioritize public safety while minimizing errors,” the press release continues.
The recent statement also expressed CSPOA’s appreciation for outspoken sheriffs across the country who have been willing to publicly support the deportation initiatives.
“American sheriffs from across the country have already expressed their willingness to support this initiative. CSPOA commends their proactive approach in collaborating to address this national challenge,” the press release concluded.
CSPOA promotes the perspective that federal and state government authorities are subordinate to the local authority of local sheriffs and police, who have both “the power and duty” to defy or disregard laws deemed to be unconstitutional.
The Tennessee CSPOA chapter specifically, is directed by Dave Rentschler and simply “seeks to educate, empower and encourage the citizens of this great state to elect, support, and rely upon Constitutional County Sheriffs, Peace Officers, and Constitutional Public Officials who understand the ethical application of The Oath of Office which they swore to uphold for our safety and peace, protecting individual liberty from all enemies, both foreign and domestic, in thought, word, and deed.”
Described as “far-right” by the Southern Poverty Law Center, CSPOA has seemingly earned that “rite of passage” and fits in well with a slew of other constitutional and conservative groups.
WKRN News 2 reported on the Tennessee CSPOA just last year, labelling the group a “Right-Wing sheriff’s group” for believing that elected sheriffs must protect their citizens from the overreach of an out-of-control federal government.
“This means they refuse to enforce any laws they deem unconstitutional,” News Anchor and Reporter Mark Kelly stated when covering the story.
Given their biased coverage of CSPOA, the media outlet may have failed to realize that many Tennesseans might very well appreciate such an approach from their local law enforcement officials.
