Vitamix, Blendtec, Nutribullet, Ninja….with all the options to mix/make things it’s hard to believe people eat out at all. But wait a minute….if it’s so simple why don’t more people utilize these things and create healthier meals at home? Because sometimes the things that are supposed to make things easier can be intimidating!
I understand this. When I got started on my whole food journey I ordered a Vitamix ($450+ at the time or purchase-GULP) because my then-husband had said, “if you are going to do all this cooking, you may as well have the best stuff to do it with!” Well, being the frugal spender I was (we were a one-income family), I couldn’t get myself to use it right away. So it sat on the floor of my kitchen staring at me from the open box for weeks. I admit it wasn’t just that the amount of money bothered me but I had NO idea what to DO with it!
I finally decided that since I was down the rabbit hole with whole food cooking, paleo recipes, soups, broths, kombucha, and more, I would take it out and see what I could come up with. I started with shakes. The first protein shake I made with it hit the ceiling. Literally. Yes…this thing was POWERFUL and I forgot to put the plunger on the top. After a good laugh and a lot of clean up I moved on to soup, muffins and more. The first night I cooked soup (yes COOKED IT IN THE VITAMIX-HOT!) the neighbor said he heard it from half a block away. Ha ha! So I share this to tell you that we all start somewhere, and if we feel a particular fear over something, sometimes all we have to do is give it time, do our research and learn a little more about what we are embarking on, but let’s not let it stop us from trying new things.
Independence starts with education, preparation, and action. When we are educated about the things we want to change, it is easier to prepare, take action, and create sustainable change. Here’s a link to help you decide if you want to add one of these powerful blenders and mixers to your kitchen toolkit.
Next week we will cover crock pots, instant pots and why if there is ever a fire in my house the kitchenware gets saved right after the kid and animals at my house!
