An illegal alien is facing nine charges after allegedly causing a multi-vehicle crash that injured seven people, including two children.

According to a report from the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 38-year-old Timoteo Trujillo-Diaz crashed head-on with a Buick Encore last Saturday night after driving his Honda CR-V the wrong way on I-40 West. The crash occurred near the Stewarts Ferry exit.

As this took place, a THP trooper was pursuing another vehicle on I-40 West. Although he swerved to avoid the accident, his vehicle hit the CR-V before coming to a stop in the grass.

In total, seven people were injured: Trujillo-Diaz and his two passengers, 25-year-old Miran Ayala Rivas and 30-year-old Vidal De Jesus Ayala Rivas; the THP trooper; and the 35-year-old driver of the Buick, along with two children, ages 2 and 7.

Inmate records from the Davidson County jail show that Trujillo-Diaz is facing a total of nine charges: driving under the influence, four counts of vehicular assault, and four counts of reckless endangerment involving a vehicle.

Trujillo-Diaz is also listed as having an immigration hold. He will remain in custody until he is turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. An ICE hold most likely means that he is in the country illegally.
