Hamilton County Commission Elects New Chair & Chair Pro Tem

During the Hamilton County Commission meeting yesterday, September 1st, the Commission nominated and voted on the new Commissioners to fill the roles of Chair and Chair Pro Tem.

Current Chairman, Chip Baker opened by asking the Commission for nominations for the Chair position. 

District 3 Commissioner Greg Martin nominated District 7 Commissioner Sabrena Smedley. 

This being the only nomination made, the Commission voted unanimously for Smedley to fulfill the new role of Commission Chair. 

Chairman Baker followed by asking for nominations for the Chair Pro Tem position. 

Commissioner Sabrena Smedley nominated District 8 Commissioner Tim Boyd.

District 5 Commissioner Katherlyn Geter nominated District 6 Commissioner David Sharpe. 

District 9 Commissioner Steve Highlander, Martin, Smedley and Baker voted for Boyd.  Commissioner Boyd voted for himself.   

District 1 Commissioner Randy Fairbanks, District 4 Commissioner Warren Mackey and Geter voted for Sharpe.  Commissioner Sharpe voted for himself. 

With a vote of 5 to 4 in favor of Boyd, he was voted in to serve in the new role as Chair Pro Tem. 

The swearing in of Smedley and Boyd was conducted by Hamilton County Clerk, Bill Knowles.
