A man convicted of murder last year who was mistakenly released from custody due to improper paperwork processing was apprehended by members of the Memphis Safe Task Force (MSTF) last week and will now face several new charges.

On September 24, 2025, then 24-year-old Anthony Green was convicted for the 2020 murder of Octavious Atkins but was “erroneously released” the same day due to a clerical error.
Upon conviction, the court immediately revoked Green’s $500,000 bond, but he was somehow able to pay a $2,500 bond for an unrelated misdemeanor theft case, be released from jail, and disappear.

At the time, the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) took responsibility for the lapse, saying the notice that Green’s $500,000 bond had been revoked “was not timely communicated” and pledged to “reinforce training, improve oversight, and ensure strict compliance with all courtroom and bail-related procedures” in future.
For over a year, Green has been in the wind until last week when agents received a tip stating he was hiding at a relative’s apartment.
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, MSTF members, including SCSO deputies and U.S. Marshals, executed a search warrant at the apartment’s address. Agents stated that nobody answered the door, but agents spotted someone trying to jump out a bedroom window.

After agents breached the front door and forced entry into the apartment, Green came out from the back room and surrendered. He was then transported to the Shelby County Jail “without further incident”.
Green is now facing new charges of first-degree murder, criminal attempt first-degree murder, and employing a firearm with intent to commit a felony. He is reportedly scheduled to appear in court today, Oct. 26.
