Senate Committee To Vote On Bill To Stop Illegal Aliens From Voting In TN (Update 3/23/22)

***Update 3.23.22 – The Senate version of the bill (SB2245) passed the Senate State and Local Government Committee on 3.22.22 with only Democrats voting against. The bill now heads to the Calendar Committee to be scheduled to be heard on the Senate floor.

The Tennessee Conservative [By Jason Vaughn] –

A bill that would keep illegal immigrants from voting in Tennessee is slated to be considered on March 22nd by the Senate State and Local Government Committee.

Senate Bill 2245 (SB2245), sponsored by Senator Joey Hensley (R-Hohenwald-District 28), and House Bill 2128 (HB2128), sponsored by Representative John Crawford (R-Bristol/Kingsport-District 1), as introduced, expressly prohibits non-United States citizens from voting in federal, state, or local elections in this state; prohibits local governments from granting non-citizens the right to vote in local elections; prescribes various other mechanisms for ensuring the integrity of elections in this state.

HB2128 passed the House of Representatives with an overwhelming 92-0 vote in favor on March 3rd, 2022.

SB2245 was scheduled to be heard by the Senate State and Local Government Committee on March 15th but action has been deferred until March 22nd.

This is one of the few bills The Tennessee Conservative has been following that has not, as of yet, been amended in any way.

Even though the legislation has already been passed by the House, the Senate Committee still has the power to block the bill before it reaches the Senate floor for a vote.  If you support this legislation, contact the Republican members of the Committee prior to their meeting on March 22nd.  You can find their contact information below.
