Tennessee Governor To Dispatch More Highway Patrol Officers To Attempt To Curb Memphis Crime Wave

After State Senator Brent Taylor (R-Memphis-District 31) requested help in curbing crime in Memphis, Governor Bill Lee’s office has announced that additional Tennessee Highway Patrol officers will be sent to Shelby County.
Approximately 40 officers were sent on Monday, November 20 to assist with “Operation Grizzly,” an already existing program that aims to lessen the number of fatalities due to traffic incidents while also promoting public safety in general.
A statement from the Governor’s office says that another 15-20 troopers will join the current law enforcement officers and will remain in Memphis for “the foreseeable future.”
“As rising crime continues to be a reality in America, Tennessee is implementing proven crime prevention methods to keep our communities safe. I commend our THP troopers for stepping up to enhance the law enforcement presence in Shelby County and help deter criminal activity in the area,” said Gov. Bill Lee. “At the same time, local officials must carry out their responsibility to uphold the law and hold criminals accountable, without resorting to soft on crime plea deals that have serious consequences and too-often result in more crime and more victims.”
According to the released statement, THP officers have made 21,759 traffic stops in Shelby County in 2023.
Memphis mayor Jim Strickland and the Memphis city council requested additional manpower from the state back in 2022 after a string of interstate shootings. THP has had an increased presence in Memphis since March.
Memphis is incredibly dangerous. If you go there, be very careful and keep a gun handy.
