On January 22, 2024 John E. Sununu, candidate for U.S. Senate for the State of New Hampshire, wrote an opinion editorial piece published in the New Hampshire Union Leader titled “DONALD TRUMP IS A LOSER”

Earlier this week, Marsha Blackburn endorsed John Sununu for U.S. Senate.  There are two other Republican Party candidates for NH Senate race, one a staunch Trump supporter, the other also criticizing Trump regarding Jan. 6th.  Blackburn endorsed Sununu over the other two Republican Party Candidates.

In 2016, Sununu endorsed OH Gov. Kasich for President, and in 2024, Sununu backed former SC Gov Nikki Haley over Trump.  Obviously, Sununu did not want to see Trump as our President.

Sununu has been a board member and advisor for banks and lobbying firms.  Sununu sounds like an establishment lacky to me, same as Blackburn, so I guess it’s not surprising Blackburn’s endorsing him.

The audacity of Blackburn though running for Tennessee Governor, knowing most Tennesseans are strong Trump supporters, and then endorsing a Trump hater.  I guess Blackburn is arrogant thinking the governorship is guaranteed and she can do as she pleases, will of the people be damned.

It is one thing to criticize Trump; I’ve done so myself regarding Trump’s statement at a Trump Rally in Nashville several years back where Trump stated, “I can’t say anything bad about judges.”  But to title an opinion editorial piece “DONALD TRUMP IS  A LOSER” is unbecoming a candidate for U.S. Senate.

In his Op-ed, Sununu incorrectly predicted; “He [Trump] has no chance of gaining them back — not in 2024, and not ever. Donald Trump speaks with all the bravado and braggadocio of a winner, but his record is littered with losses all across America.”

And Marsha is endorsing a banker/lobbyist advisor who grossly disparages our President?   Marsha’s endorsement smacks of cronyism, and solidifying establishment power brokering.

Go take a look at Blackburn’s Facebook page.  At around noon today 10/27/25, Blackburn’s Facebook page posted her endorsement of Sununu.  Linked in comment is Sununu’s Op-ed: DONALD TRUMP IS A LOSER, and another New Hampshire Bulletin article about Sununu’s  downplaying Trump’s influence in the next NH election.

Marsha seems two-faced to me.  She is asking for our votes.  My guess is that if she wins, she will continue to be two-faced at the expense of the people.

I encourage you to take a look at Monty Fritts for Governor.  He has my vote.  Monty is for preserving/restoring liberty, curtailing government spending, and verbatim compliance with state and federal constitutions.

In mulling Senate run, John E. Sununu plays down a president he has criticized:

  1. It is time to contact Blackburn’s offices and question her loyalty to our country and our President. I know I will. Sununu is a bought and paid for schlub for the deep state and I have to wonder if Blackburn is as well. Trump is saving this country: don’t like it, get out. We will never allow the communist left to get power to destroy this country ever again. The American people were lulled into complacency over the past 200 years and it is time to stand up and protect this country and out rights (that come from God, not the government).

  2. There are three widely known conservative organizations that have scorecards in which they rate public officeholders viz. Heritage Action For America, Club For Growth, and CPAC. These three organizations give Marsha lifetime scores of 87%, 89%, and 95% respectively. Conclusion: Marsha is a solid conservative by any reasonable definition of “conservative”. Similarly, Rose and Fritts get high conservative scores as well. Thus there probably won’t be a dimes worth of difference in the administration of Marsha, John or Monty so our primary task as conservatives is, rather than pick from these three candidates, to get behind the one with the best chance of winning right before the election next summer so we can finally put an end to the Haslam-Lee administration after 16 long years. PLEASE DON’T GET DISTRACTED FELLOW CONSERVATIVES. LET’S JUST WIN!!!

  3. Stuart Anderson in comment above suggests voters need to get behind the one with the best chance of winning the general election. That is a nonsense argument. Tennessee is at worst 60/40 probably more like 70/30 republican conservative voters. Whatever Republican Party Candidate is on the ballot in Nov ’26 will be our next governor. My vote in August will be for Monty Fritts, because I believe he is our best hope to bring our Tennessee government back into compliance with our state constitution.

    1. No John, I’m not concerned “with the best chance of ‘winning the general election”, rather I’m concerned with supporting the conservative candidate with the best chance of winning THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY, which is tantamount to being elected as you say, so we can end the Haslam-Lee administration in this no-runoff state.

      1. Thank you for clarifying. Myself, rather than voting for who I think will win, I cast my votes for who I think is the best candidate to serve. I vote for the most constitutionally competent candidate.

  4. He has been a vocal critic of Trump on multiple occasions, particularly during presidential primaries, leading many to label him a “Trump hater” or “Never Trumper.” However, as of October 2025, Sununu has voted for Trump, is seeking his endorsement in a 2026 Senate bid, and emphasizes their past “working relationship” during Trump’s first term. This shift appears driven by political pragmatism rather than ideological alignment, as Sununu prioritizes electability and New Hampshire-specific issues over personal loyalty to Trump.
Sununu’s actions in 2024 and 2025 suggest he’s not an unrelenting opponent. That said, his history fuels skepticism from MAGA-aligned Republicans, who view him as opportunistic. Sununu qualifies as a Trump critic—bordering on “hater” given the “loser” rhetoric and repeated primary opposition—but not in an absolute sense. His stance is more “anti-Trump dominance” than outright hatred, rooted in a moderate Republican desire for broader appeal in swing states like New Hampshire. By 2025, he’s pivoting toward accommodation to win, which some see as cynical flip-flopping. If “hater” implies unrelenting personal animosity, the answer is no; if it means strong ideological opposition to Trump’s style and impact, then yes. His 2026 campaign will test how far voters (and Trump) buy the reconciliation.
